Largest Housing Association Grant-Funded Project in Scotland – Built by McTaggart Construction

Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Deputy First Minister, has unveiled Scotland’s largest ever single housing association grant-funded project on 15th August 2014 at Laurieston in Glasgow.

McTaggart Construction, part of the Urban Union consortium, has constructed 201 homes in a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed flats and houses for New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) laid out in a spacious and attractive development, regenerating the Laurieston area of Gorbals, Glasgow.

Welcoming the completion of this stage of the project, Ms Sturgeon said:

“This new housing development in Laurieston is fantastic and a major step in the right direction. It really shows just how effective partnership working can be in regenerating our communities. It is only by working together that we can deliver change on a scale like this.”

The completion of the £24 million housing development for New Gorbals Housing Association marks the first milestone in the regeneration of Laurieston. The second phase of the development, which will include 39 homes for mid-market rent by NGHA and 69 new homes for sale, will begin on site shortly.

Urban Union is a joint venture partnership between McTaggart Construction and Robertson Group Holdings. It is a unique partnership formed to deliver large scale regeneration projects. Both partners have a proven track record in delivering mixed tenure projects and working to deliver community benefits in procurement in Scotland.
