Pupils from St Francis Primary in Gorbals, Glasgow visited Laurieston Regeneration Project, the new construction site by McTaggart Construction.
The site will deliver 201 new flats and houses for New Gorbals Housing Association.
The pupils were given an Ivor Goodsite video, the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme character, which showed the children the dangers of building sites. They were then shown the site manager’s office where they could see the whole area and the site manager explained how he managed the construction of the development and all the people involved.
They were introduced to some of the large machines on site, a Telehandler that lifts materials up to scaffolding and an Excavator. The children also had an opportunity to try their hand at bricklaying as well, with some promising results!
The site is due for completion in summer 2014 so the children will be invited back to the site for an update as construction progresses.
